  Image Processing

Any work involving the formatting, editing, or changing the type of file for an image, can be considered a form of image processing. Image editing, enlargement, touch ups, masking, color adjustment are also common forms of image processing.

It is common for websites using images to need to format or process those images. Sometimes the background colors need to be changed. Other times the image needs to be sized to fit exact pixel requirements. Borders are sometimes necessary around pictures as well, not to mention enhancing the colors within the picture. Sometimes the colors need to be lightened or darkened, or have tinges of other colors mixed with them. Image processing is a daily part of life in the internet business and advertising in general.

Image processing is almost exclusively used for digital images, but is sometimes used for analog images too. One of the issues involved with image processing is that changing colors on one object in the image can look very sloppy. If you look carefully at a digital picture, it is made out of pixels of different shades. If you do a very precise job of changing the colors of the pixels in the object that you want to change and having a natural looking transition between the object and the background, then nobody will notice that you worked on it. Bad image editing is like a bad hair transplant -- you can notice it from a mile away.
