  Check Processing

Conventional check processing involves check processing machines which imprint signatures, print dollar amounts, and apply endorsement stamps, plus include security measures to protect and resrtict access to checks. Electronic check processing is more efficient than conventional checks. Save on mailing fees, verification process, and enjoy the reduced possibility of fraud.

In addition to the type of check processing that outsourcing BPO companies do, there are other types of check processing. There is e-check processing where funds are sent electronically using financial data from the sender's bank account. Regional check processing centers are part of the Federal Reserve's check clearing system which collects and receives checks drawn on banks from the region. These centers process checks nightly and arrange an expedited collection and settlement of those checks.

I have personally visited many check processing centers in Boston and Providence. Couriers will arrive in pick up trucks hauling bags of checks from banks and drop them off. The couriers will drive down a ramp into the loading dock of high rises or at huge facilities and then a clerk will receive the bags and sign for them. It is common for couriers to make their rounds to ten or twenty banks, picking up one or two bags of checks at each bank, and then drive to the processing center.
